This report marks an important step in recognizing the issue of men who have experienced sexual abuse and in mobilizing key stakeholders to respond appropriately.
This morning, the Regroupement des organismes québécois pour hommes agressés sexuellement (ROQHAS) released its very first report.
Although services for men who have experienced sexual abuse (HAS) have existed in Quebec for over 25 years, this is the first report to focus specifically on their reality. It provides an overview of community organizations offering services to HAS while also examining their needs. The report also presents a brief overview of the challenges faced by these men, supported by scientific literature.
The needs identified by ROQHAS members highlight the importance of training for professionals, creating communities of practice, strengthening networks among organizations, securing adequate funding, increasing societal awareness of this issue, and conducting in-depth research to better understand this under-studied reality.
As a member organization of ROQHAS, we fully recognize the quality and relevance of this report. We were pleased to welcome Samuel Dussault, director of ROQHAS and former CRIPHASE counselor, along with journalists attending both in person and online. We remain committed to our mission by providing services to men who have experienced sexual abuse and raising awareness about this critical issue.
